PET/CT
PET/CT combines the power of the two
modalities. The primary use is to detect cancer and pinpoint
its exact location in the body. Tumor imaging is the major
application. PET/CT gives oncologists the ability to examine
tumors throughout their development and treatment without
having to perform unnecessary tests.
PET/CT scans provide highly defined,
3-D images inside the human body and sometimes detect cancer
that may not have been detected through any other
non-invasive imaging exam. In addition to cancer detection
and oncological staging, PET/CT is also used to determine
treatment choices for heart disease patients.
Patient benefits include its
non-claustrophobic design with an open area in between the
two rings and the convenience of having both PET and CT in
one single scan. Short investigation times also improve
patient comfort. |
