CT Procedures and Test Accelerate in 2006

IMV Medical Information Division 2006 CT report states CT procedures climbed from 50.0 million to an estimated 62.0 million from 2003 to 2006. An annualized rate of 8% per year.

Reasons stated for the growth–more sites within the clinical setting where CT is being used. CT technology has been expanded to include volumetric scanning, thinner slices, 3-D visualization and far greater speed. These advances have created new CT opportunities in cardiology, gastroenterology, and other specialties.

New uses according to IMV, are why the CT replacement market will range from 1200-1600 units per year over the next five years. On average CT's will be replaced every 6.7 years.
